Background:
Susan M. Ashley is a member of the Bar of Nova Scotia specializing in labour and employment arbitration and mediation. She is currently Chair of the Highway Workers Employee Relations Board. Until recently she was Chair of the Nova Scotia Labour Standards Tribunal, and vice-Chair of the Nova Scotia Labour Relations Board. She has taught at the Dalhousie Law School and Acadia University, and is former Associate Dean at the Dalhousie Law School. An active arbitrator, she acted as ‚Selector‚ in the Final Offer Selection process which ended the strike of health care professionals in Nova Scotia (July ‚ August 2001), and as federal arbitrator imposing the final package for workers affected by the closure of the Cape Breton Development Corporation (September-October 2001). Ms. Ashley also has extensive experience with human rights adjudication, under both provincial and federal jurisdiction.

Ms. Ashley lives in the Avonport area with her husband and their daughter Grace. Their other children currently live in Lethbridge, Toronto, Halifax and the Wolfville area.
