Background:
THOMAS S. KUTTNER is Professor of Law at the University of New Brunswick with teaching and research interests in the fields of Labour Law, Collective Bargaining & Arbitration, Administrative Law, and Constitutional Law. He joined the Faculty in 1979. Professor Kuttner has been a member of the New Brunswick Bar since 1981, and was named Queenâs Counsel in 2001.

Professor Kuttner has been an active arbitrator, mediator and conciliator for many years in both the Federal and the Provincial sectors. He has acted as mediator, arbitrator or adjudicator in over 200 grievance arbitrations, and as conciliator, chair of conciliation boards, or interest arbitrator in the resolution of over 50 interest disputes in both the public and the private arenas. Professor Kuttner is a named arbitrator in collective agreements in the Hospital, university, transportation, stevedoring, construction, manufacturing and industrial sectors.

Professor Kuttner is Vice-Chair of the New Brunswick Labour and Employment Board, [1994- ] having previously served as Vice-Chair of the Industrial Relations Board and Chair of its Construction Division [1985-94] and as Vice-Chair of the Ontario Labour Relations Board [1985-87]. In 2002 he was appointed a part-time member of the Federal Public Service Staff Relations Board. Over 90 of his labour board decisions appear in edited case report series.

Professor Kuttner is active in several academic and professional organizations.
