Background:
Bill Kydd is a member of the Bar of Nova Scotia. He was engaged in the practice of law with the firm of Ritch Durnford, for 40 years. In recent years he has acted primarily as an arbitrator in the field of labour, employment, real estate, and commercial law. In June of 2009 he retired from Ritch Durnford, and now has a private practice, restricted to acting as an arbitrator and mediator.
He has served as chair of over 200 arbitration boards over the past five years, and has chaired arbitrations in all of the Atlantic provinces, involving a wide spectrum of disputes. He has mediated disputes in labour relations, commercial, and insurance matters and has completed advance courses in mediation, including the program on mediation at Harvard Law School. He has participated both as prosecuting counsel, and as counsel to the adjudicating tribunal in various professional disciplinary proceedings. He also has lengthy experience in many areas of civil litigation including employment law, tort, commercial, construction, municipal, insurance and admiralty law. He has served as Chair of the Civil Service Employee Relations Board, as an alternate Vice-Chair of the Nova Scotia Labour Relations Board and Labour Standards Tribunal, and is currently Chair of the N.S. Civil Service Classification Appeals Tribunal.
